4th Annual Team Hailey 5K Run/Walk for a Cure

Well it was another great year for the Team Hailey 5K. The weather was terrible, but once again people came out in good numbers anyway with smiles on and continued to show that the Team Hailey supporters are some of the toughest around.

All the numbers and money are not in yet, but it appears the net amount raised for the PLGA Foundation will be somewhere around $42,000! We can't thank enough our generous sponsors, those who participated and volunteered, and of course Grandma Peg and her excellent 5K Committee (Hailey's Aunt Amy, Great-Aunts Lori and Kris, Cousin Jackie, Good Friend - Lisa) and the rest of the team of incredible people that make this such a great event.

We also had lots of new faces this year, which is hopefully something to keep building on and will help us continue to grow the total number of people who participate in years to come. And on a special note, it was so neat to see Hailey's nurses from Madison make the trip up for the run. We can't say enough how much that meant to all of us. And it was great for them to get to see Hailey in a different environment and get a better look at what she is really like outside of the hospital.

Hope to see you all again next year!!

3rd Annual Team Hailey 5K Run/Walk for a Cure

It was a successful and record breaking year for the Team Hailey 5K again this year. We had nearly 700 participants, the weather was great, and as usual we came away inspired by all the support. A sincere thanks to all who sponsored, volunteered, or participated in the event. As of this writing, it appears we will have raised approximately $50,000 for the PLGA Foundation and moved another step closer to finding better treatments and a cure for this tumor type! Hope to see you all again next year...

2nd Annual Team Hailey 5k Run/Walk for a Cure

Thanks to all of you who participated in, sponsored, supported, or volunteered for the Run/Walk this weekend. The weather was not good again this year, but the turnout was amazing. We are still gathering and confirming final numbers, but it appears registrations were up by almost 100 from last year. And it looks initially like total dollars raised for the PLGA Foundation will end up around $40,000! All in all, we feel good about the numbers in this economy, and feel totally INSPIRED by the attendance and the support from the people that were involved on Saturday despite bad weather. We saw so many faces we knew and many we didn't, and so many people who had the best attitude about getting soaking wet out on the course. It really was very uplifting to Shannon and I on many levels. Grandma Peg and the team of volunteers deserve a ton of credit for pulling off a very well run and successful event. We are so lucky to have the support we do around us!!

As of right now Hailey and Faith will be there for everyone in Tomahawk to meet her and put a face with the name! We are already making plans for that date!!! We are still waiting for all the money to be turned in to get a final count! Finally we caught 3 muskies compared to 0 last year! Also lost one we couldn't see to get into the net just after dark! We have a video we will show at the golf outing which will prove entertaining to say the least! If there is anyone that would still like to make a monetary pledge you can still do that by sending me a check to the PLGA Foundation, or drop it off at the Park City Credit Union here in Tomahawk! Team Hailey 5k Run/Walk for a Cure

On Saturday April 26th we held the Team Hailey 5k Run/Walk For a Cure in Menasha. The course started at Germania Hall in Menasha and went over the scenic trestle trail bridge. The weather left a bit to be desired, but the day itself was a huge success. In some ways we think it is appropriate that the weather was a little rough…it was symbolic of our journey and kind of inspiring to see people battle through the conditions with a smile on their face and a great attitude.

Early totals put the net proceeds at around $43,000! Incredible! 100% of proceeds will go towards PLGA specific research. It was our biggest fundraising event to date by a mile.

Hope for Hailey: Win Big. Give Big.

This event was a huge success thanks to the UW-Whitewater AMA Chapter. They did an amazing job putting on a fun and impressive night. Proceeds from the evening raised about $15,000 for the PLGA Foundation, with all proceeds going directly to PLGA specific research. As an outcome of the event, two other major universities in other parts of the country have agreed to fundraise for PLGA Foundation in 2009 thanks to the presentation Carolyn Schweitzer gave at the national AMA conference in New Orleans.

Bowl for a Cure

The bowling event turned out to be a blast! Nearly $5,000 was raised for the PLGA Foundation because of this event, and the best part, is it was a blast in the process. The day ended with an incredible moment when Hailey, Faith, and Uncle Kurt rolled a strike together to win a "beat the pro" competition and the whole place errupted like they just won the superbowl! It was a really neat moment. Thanks to the bowling alley and Uncle Dave and Aunt Dee for making this event happen. They did a fantastic job.

Where: A lake up north somewhere

Event Report: Shannon's cousin, Jim Olson, finished his 24 hour fishathon this morning! We want to thank Jim and his family and supporters for taking on this challenge. Jim stayed up 24 hours straight, and then went right from the lake to the radio station to do an interview with a local radio host and Shannon (who was on the line by phone from Appleton). This event was just another example of the kind of tenacity and support we've received from those around us...and Jim was very smart to incorporate some good marketing and publicity along with it. The doantion numbers will not be in for a few weeks, but the most important thing may be the fact that Jim and his team helped raise more awareness up in the north woods, and hopefully helped draw more people to our website and to our cause. GREAT JOB JIM! We are blown away by the effort you gave on this and the support you and your family have provided us so far. Check out the links below to see the wausau/tomahawk area news story and radio interview regarding what Jim did and our cause....
